Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis is said to be the most common cause of heel pain. It is when the flat band of tissue that connects your heel bone to your toes gets strained and becomes inflamed. The hallmark sign of plantar fasciitis is pain when you take your first steps after getting out of bed or sitting for a long time. The pain seems to improve as you continue with your activity and then gets worse at the end of the day.
Acute plantar fasciitis responds well to a combination of conservative treatments such as rest, ice, stretching, orthotics, and chiropractic adjustment. Chronic cases may lead to heel spurs and other severe conditions and are often slow to respond to treatment. Avoid steroid injection as it may lead to weakening of the connective tissue, buildup of scar tissue and damage to the fat pad.
