Morton’s Neuroma
Morton’s neuroma is a benign growth or thickening of the tissue that surrounds the digital nerve leading to the toes. It is a painful condition that affects the ball of your foot, most commonly in the area between your third and fourth toes. The thickening of the tissue is in response to irritation, trauma or excessive pressure.
Wearing tight, narrow and high-heeled shoes increase pain and numbness in between the toes. Toe extension, standing or walking on toes can also aggravate the condition.
Conservative treatments include corrective shoes, orthotics and chiropractic adjustment. Wide toe or low-heeled shoes are highly recommended. Custom orthotics will help relieve irritation by lifting and separating the bones. Adjusting the lower extremity will correct bony misalignment and restore the arch integrity, reducing the pressure on the nerve.
