Menstrual Cramps and Chiropractic
Many women suffer from painful menstrual cycles, also known as primary dysmenorrhea. For some, the excruciating cramps make normal daily activities difficult to perform. Menstrual cramps are caused by contractions in the uterus. The uterus contracts throughout a woman’s menstrual cycle and it can go into spasms causing it to lose necessary nutrients, oxygen, and nerve supply resulting in pain. In order to function in a proper manner, the uterus just like other organs of the body needs nerve supply from the spine.
If you are sick and tired of taking Midol or Advil, or if you find yourself curled up in bed due to pain, give chiropractic care a try. Chiropractic adjustment to the pelvis helps restore the nerve supply to the uterus; it can decrease tension and restore blood flow to the uterus and to the ligaments that connect the uterus to the abdominal wall. Don’t wait till “that time of the month” — get a comprehensive history and examination to see if spinal subluxation may be the cause of your painful periods.
