Ganglion Cysts
Ganglion cysts are fluid-filled mass or lump that are most commonly seen along the tendons or joints of the wrists and hands. In most cases, they are harmless and do not require treatment unless they become painful, interfere with function, or become an esthetic concern.
Although the cause is unknown, they are commonly seen among individuals who repeatedly apply stress to the wrist. Ganglion cysts may cause pain, tingling, and muscle weakness if they put pressure on the nerves underneath them.
Immobilization may relieve symptoms and cause the ganglion to decrease in size, as activity often causes it to grow causing nerve pressure that leads to pain. Other pain relievers include adjusting the adjacent bones, along with physiotherapy. Aspiration or draining the fluid is another non-surgical way to relieve symptoms.
